Blink-182’s Travis Barker Pays Tribute to DJ AM OnstageA day after 36-year-old Adam Goldstein, known as DJ AM, was found dead in his New York apartment, frequent collaborator Travis Barker of
Blink-182 paid tribute to his fallen friend on Twitter and onstage. The pair performed together as TRV$DJAM and survived a
Learjet crash last September that killed the flight’s four other passengers.
“Don’t know how i am gonna play 2night but i am for AM,”
Barker tweeted this afternoon. “My brother is gone.i love u and miss u, i’ll never forget all the good times we had.” He later added, “I’ll never forget everything we’ve been thru and every time i play the drums i’ll think of you. U were an amazing friend/DJ/human being” and “Rest In Peace my brother, this really fucks me up.”
At Blink’s Hartford, Connecticut concert tonight, Barker skipped his usual levitated drum solo during the encore, and the band hosted an onstage vigil for AM, asking for all the lights in the arena to be turned off.
As
Rolling Stone reported, DJ AM was found face down and shirtless on the bed in his lower Manhattan apartment yesterday afternoon when friends called authorities because they hadn’t heard from him in several days. There was no sign of foul play, but a crack pipe and prescription drugs were found in the apartment. An initial autopsy has proved inconclusive, the
AP reports, and law enforcement sources say it will take weeks for toxicology reports to determine Goldstein’s cause of death.
In addition to Barker’s heartfelt notes, stars including Diddy, John Mayer, ?uestlove and Paris Hilton headed to Twitter to remember AM, who was well known for handling the turntables at celebrity hotspots and high-profile events. Mandy Moore, who dated Goldstein several years ago, released a statement Sunday that reads, “I am absolutely heartbroken. For those of us lucky enough to have known him, Adam radiated a contagious exuberance for life and also personified the very definition of a true friend. To say that he will be missed beyond words is an understatement. My heart goes out to his loved ones.”
